Australian states and territories have closed their borders to limit travel for non-residents. Non-essential businesses like pubs and clubs, that have survived on a ‘support local’ principal, have temporarily closed. Other businesses are struggling and having to close or let their staff go. And over a million people became unemployed overnight.
For small businesses like ours, still in operation, we’re concerned about what the future holds. Our friends in business, are worried too. But what can we collectively do to help our mates out and during this time of stress and unknown?

Shop local
The popularity of online shopping has advanced significantly in recent years. You can pretty much buy anything online. This includes our beautiful Australian honey and other agricultural products you would normally only buy at your local grocery store or farmers markets.
As consumers, we are lucky to have a lot of choice online. But its important right now to support our local retailers who may be doing it a little tough. When you buy from overseas based online stores, this will do little to help our Australian businesses.
At AB’s Honey, our very own retail honey shop, Simply Honey, has been supplying Australian homes 100% pure honey for over a year. Online is not new to us and we have the adequate systems in place to ensure we meet all health and safety guidelines set by our government.
We have adequate supply and will continue to distribute our products, including table honey, Manuka honey and bee products like beeswax from our Brisbane based warehouse to our customers.
Get it delivered
One of the challenges faced by small businesses in Australia right now is the decline in face to face contact as we are told to self-isolate at home to “flatten the curve” of COVID-19.
Being at home doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll never have a restaurant quality meal or fresh food again for a while. A lot of food businesses in Australia have already moved to delivery or takeaway business models only with more to come in the coming days and weeks.
